Unit of Competency MSS404085 - Undertake proactive maintenance analyses
Description
Employability Skills
Learning Outcomes and Application This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to undertake the most common forms of analyses associated with predictive/preventative/reliability centred maintenance strategies. This unit applies to a technical expert (usually an engineer, technician or tradesperson) who is required to undertake analyses for predictive, preventative and/or reliability centred maintenance of plant/equipment as part of a competitive systems and practices strategy. This includes undertaking a failure effects analysis in accordance with organisation’s procedures. No licensing or certification requirements exist at the time of publication. Relevant legislation, industry standards and codes of practice within Australia must be applied.
Duration and Setting X weeks, nominally xx hours, delivered in a classroom/online/blended learning setting.

Elements of Competency Performance Criteria
Element: Liaise with operator
  • Establish a relationship with the operator of equipment
  • Check the operator has the required skills and resources to keep the equipment clean
  • Check the operator can monitor the operation of the equipment
  • Communicate with operator about the overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) of equipment
  • Involve operator, team leader and key personnel in identification of skill needs and means of skill acquisition to fill any identified gaps

Element: Analyse history
  • Read maintenance records and analyse mean time between failures (MTBF)
  • Read and analyse performance data of the equipment
  • Identify causes of changes to historic trends and status
  • Determine methods of ensuring causes of improvements and resolution of deterioration are locked in

(add new lines for each of the assessment tasks)

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.

Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.
